Historique: Jean-Théodore de Bavière
Born September 3, 1703 of Elector Maximilian-Emmanuel of Bavaria and Thérèse Cunegonde Sobieska, daughter of the King of Poland John III. He studied at the University of Ingolstadt and later in Siena. He was bishop of Ratisbon on 29 July 1719 and Freisingen in 1727. He was canon of the cathedral of Saint-Lambert on 15 November 1738. He was appointed prince-bishop of Liège by Pope Benedict XIV on 10 March 1744 and was a cardinal June 17, 1746. He leads a great life in Liege, loves hunting, the arts and mistresses. Fragile constitution (asthmatic and tuberculous), on the advice of his doctor Steppler, he leaves Liège for Munich. He died on January 27, 1763 in Liège and is buried in the cathedral. As he was often absent from the principality, there were tensions with the opposition party, which accused him of monetary manipulation to such an extent as to cause inflation and a slowdown in trade.
A sou or four liards has the value of a patard of Brabant-Liège, which is worth four aidants in old Liège currency. Charles d'Oultremont, Prince-Bishop, following to Jean-Theodore of Bavaria, drafted an edict, December 13, 1766, which castigates the introduction into the circulation of false pieces of a sou of yellow copper. The coin of a sou is struck at the pendulum in Liège from 1 July 1750 to August 1752.
